Today is Beltane, the pagan holiday that marks the halfway point between Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice. In ancient Celtic culture, people celebrated fertility during this time, as well as the balancing of male and female energies. There were rituals of fire, feasts and festivity. Beltane is a time to celebrate new birth and revel in the pleasures of being alive!
Yesterday, a few of us gathered for a Nature Wander in the forest and practices that remind us of our interconnection with all that is. We reconnected with our bodies by dancing. We shook off stuckness and moved our way into celebrating what we choose to grow in ourselves. Our time together was profound.
Why? Because when we are fully alive in our wholeness and balance, we are able to offer our gifts to contribute to the “Great Turning.” In other words, our personal growth furthers the healing of the planet. And nature and movement quietly and consistently offer us this gift of growth. All we need to do is accept it.
You may already know that I dance…a lot. It’s a form of meditation for me, especially when my mind is spinning too much to sit. And even though I dance regularly, even though I know it is one of the most effective tools for bringing me out of mind chatter and into my body and spirit, I have to admit, I don’t do it every day.
So, this Beltane, I’m challenging myself to dance every single day during the month of May. I would love for you to join me!
I’m not talking about memorizing steps or impressing anyone with my fancy dance moves. This is a private, solo practice (although if you have someone who wants to dance with you, that’s awesome) with no agenda, no goal. Just randomly choosing a song or two and moving until the mind settles and the body takes over. Noticing what guidance may come forth from Spirit–maybe through a sensation, maybe a knowing, or maybe even a big aha. Who knows? As an added bonus, I’m going to dance outdoors as much as possible with my bare feet connected to Mama Earth.
I’m convinced that my commitment to this simple practice will expand me in ways I don’t yet conceive. And that my expansion spirals out to others.
If you are coming along for the challenge, I would love to support you. Let me know if you need music suggestions, encouragement or reminders to keep going. I would be honored to be your dance partner.
As always, I’m here to serve you in other ways as well. I offer intuitive readings and healings, spiritual mentoring, as well as movement coaching. You can find more information at RememberYourWings.com.
