Leo full moon & being ridiculously courageous in Love

Today, two days before Valentine’s Day, the full moon rises in the constellation of Leo, and the bold, passionate lion archetype has much to teach us about love. Leo is associated with confidence, courage and leadership, and as for body parts, the heart.

While the upcoming “holiday” celebrates the idea of romantic love, what if we chose to celebrate Love with a capital L? That is, Love, as an energy or a way of being. What if we practiced during this full moon being more open-hearted? Carrying ourselves through the world as Love, even in the face of all that does not feel like Love?

I believe this takes great courage and leadership, as we humans have become accustomed to seeing the world through the lens of separateness rather than Oneness.

A dear friend sent me a poem about Love the other day after a conversation about the present state of the world. I have read it almost daily because in her expression, the poet has exquisitely captured the feelings in my own heart. I hope you enjoy it, too.

Because
by Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer

So I can’t save the world—
can’t save even myself,
can’t wrap my arms around
every frightened child, can’t
foster peace among nations,
can’t bring love to all who
feel unlovable.
So I practice opening my heart
right here in this room and being gentle
with my insufficiency. I practice
walking down the street heart first.
And if it is insufficient to share love,
I will practice loving anyway.
I want to converse about truth,
about trust. I want to invite compassion
into every interaction.
One willing heart can’t stop a war.
One willing heart can’t feed all the hungry.
And sometimes, daunted by a task too big,
I tell myself what’s the use of trying?
But today, the invitation is clear:
to be ridiculously courageous in love.
To open the heart like a lilac in May,
knowing freeze is possible
and opening anyway.
To take love seriously.
To give love wildly.
To race up to the world
as if I were a puppy,
adoring and unjaded,
stumbling on my own exuberance.
To feel the shock of indifference,
of anger, of cruelty, of fear,
and stay open. To love as if it matters,
as if the world depends on it.

This full moon I am seeking the wisdom of the lion on how to bravely open my heart, even when I don’t want to. I desire to be “ridiculously courageous in love” because I agree with Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer–the world depends on it.

I will be pulling oracle cards for guidance, as I do every full moon.
